Help Us Bring Your Business Idea to Life with The Step Up
In support of the governments current guidance, this years 'The Step Up' initiative has been suspended and will restart again in 2021.
We are looking for local independent small business ideas to take part in this year‘s ‘Step Up‘ initiative, bringing small business ideas to life. Whether your business is a new idea or you have an existing online presence but are looking to move into the retail environment, we want to hear from you.
This is the second year of the ‘Step Up‘ initiative following the success of it’s launch last year. The successful candidates will receive space free of charge at the centre to retail their product during Independent Retailer Month in July, as well as free expert advice and support to help understand the shopping centre environment and customer expectations.
Last years winning candidates Telford Slings and Sew Wise benefitted from their Step Up experience, both taking thier businesses to the next level following their time at Telford Centre.
Anne Bowen of Sew Wise said: ‘Winning the Step Up last year was great. It motivated me to get a new business up and running. The help provided by Telford Centre to create a new brand logo and marketing was invaluable. The experience of trading in the town centre was a really useful way to start and gave me a great insight into what customers want. Hopefully awareness about the environmental impact of producing textiles is increasing throughout the UK and people will be prepared to buy more upcycled textiles. I am now creating new designs along with making plans for the future of the business.“
Helen of Telford Slings said: ‘Being a winner of The Step Up Project 2019 was amazing! The chance of having a retail space in the shopping centre was fantastic. I still have people coming to see me now who remember seeing me there! Slings and babywearing are one of those things that people wish they'd known about sooner - and by being in the town centre I was able to reach expectant parents, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who hadn't realised how easy and useful it could be and that help was available in Telford! It really helped launch my business to a wider audience, and the management team are so supportive and help you with any questions you have and even offer business support. I still keep in touch with them now. It really gave my business a boost and I would urge anyone considering applying for it to go for it!‘

Successful candidates will also be required to provide additional documents and have their own public liability insurance. The closing date for entries is 1st May 2020.
