The newly refurbished Shopmobility facility at Telford Centre is now open and features a dedicated Quiet Room.
Opened by members of the Telford Autism Hub, the all new refurbished Shopmobility unit which is located on Red Oak car Park, has a new layout, new décor, new furniture, blinds, new soft furnishings and a brand new service desk. And in addition, a new dedicated Quiet Room has also been added.
The Quiet Room has been included to help all customers with additional needs. It includes dimmed lighting and soft furnishings and will soon include bean bags for children. The room also provides a quite space for people affected by autism if they require some time out from a busy shopping environment.
Whilst the new Shopmobility and Quiet Room services are now open, work is taking place behind the scenes to provide a refurbished accessible toilet facility which will be open soon.
Katie Broome, Marketing Manager at Telford Centre said ‘We have invested in the refurbishment of the Shopmobility unit as this is such a well used facility. It is important to us that these services are to the highest standard to make our customer’s visit with us as comfortable as possible. We hope the addition of a Quiet Room will be something our customers will also find beneficial, by providing a quiet space to take time out from the busy mall environment.’
Wendy Longfield, Telford Autism Hub Team Leader said “ The Quiet Room is wonderful. I think it is so important for customers to have a quiet, safe place for a bit of time out in a busy shopping environment. Our members benefit from our partnership with Telford Centre and the initiatives they do to make all customers feel welcome.”
The Shopmobility unit and Quiet Room are additional services being provided at Telford Centre as part of the ongoing investment to increase the services available for customers with additional needs. Services already provided at the centre include The Retreat Rooftop Garden, a Quiet Hour on the first Saturday of every month and Autism Champions - members of the customer service team who have been trained to support customers affected by autism and raise awareness with shoppers and retailers.
